NSW Department of Education and Training: The Arts Unit

Fibre

"Rapunzel" (Esther Alexander, Abbotsleigh College - Junior Campus)Processes for works in this category include:

  • weaving
  • batik
  • fabric painting
  • fabric printing
  • tie-dying
  • collage (using threads, fabric, offcuts etc.)

Why not consider:

  • using a sewing machine as a drawing tool.
  • experimenting with unusual materials such as plastics, synthetics, papers, fibres etc.
  • combining fibre works with other forms.

Please note - artworks in this form will be framed behind acrylic sheet so deep three dimensional works cannot be accepted. Works must not exceed A2 in size.

There are also hundreds of examples of student works and lessons available on the Teaching Resources CD available through The Arts Unit. For a more "hands-on" approach, why not look at attending one of the Operation Art Workshops which are held in many locations across New South Wales.
