2009 Dance Ensembles

The NSW Public Schools State Dance Companies and Ensembles are an established core program of The Arts Unit. The program aims to foster the development of talented students in dance and provide performance opportunities in order to encourage the pursuit of excellence in this art form.  The Companies and Ensembles play a major role in staged events held across NSW and form the core dance groups performing at the State Dance Festival, the Schools Spectacular and other high profile events.

 

The Dance Ensembles for 2009 will include a group for students in Years 3 and 4. This new initiative is aimed at meeting the needs of younger students who show an interest and ability in dance.

 

Students who are selected for the Dance Companies and Ensembles are required to attend weekly rehearsals held after school hours in Sydney.  General information concerning the Dance Ensembles program is as follows:

Audition Dates	Monday 16 February 2009 (Years 3 - 6) - 2:30 pm to 6:00 pm Tuesday 17 February 2009 (Years 7 and 8) - 2:30 pm to 6:00 pm Wednesday 18 February 2009 (Years 9 and 10) - 2:30 pm to 7:00 pm Thursday 19 February 2009 (Years 11 and 12) - 2:30 pm to 7:00 pm All auditioning students should arrive by 2:30 pm
Callback Auditions	Friday 20 February 2008 - 2:30 pm - 7:00 pm (all students selected for a callback auditions must arrive by 2:30 pm)
Audition Venue	University of NSW Dance Studios (behind IO Myers Theatre) Entry via Gate 2, High Street, Kensington
Eligibility	Students from Year 3 to 12 attending government primary, central and secondary schools.
Rehearsal Venue	University of New South Wales Dance Studios
Rehearsal Times	Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday 4:30 pm to 7:00 pm Students attend one of these rehearsal days depending on the group in which they are placed.

Fees	Tuition $275.00 (includes GST) plus a costume levy payable to NSW Department of Education and Training

Once, completed, this form needs to be faxed to The Arts Unit on 02 6569 6878 before applications close on Friday 13 February 2009.  This year, auditions will be coordinated by year groups.  Please consult the timetable below in order to establish which audition you will be required to attend.  Where schools have a number of interested students, teachers may fax all forms for their students.
