2010 Festival of Choral Music

All primary schools are invited to be a part of the 2010 Festival of Choral Music program.

 

In 2010, five exciting concerts featuring combined primary school choirs of 700 voices and outstanding individual school items will be presented in the Concert Hall of the Sydney Opera House.

 

The 2010 repertoire will feature an array of choral works both challenging and diverse for primary school choirs. The 2010 repertoire will include pieces by Australian composer Dan Walker, Out There and Pilliga Stomp, songs by Paul Jarman, The Captain's Tale and James Madsen, Sea Winds Blow. Holst's stirring I Vow to Thee My Country, featuring a vocal soloist and accompanied by our wonderful symphony orchestra, will open the concert. We will revisit arrangements from previous years including Early One Morning arranged by Richard Gill and Sting's beautiful ballad, Fields of Gold. The stage band will accompany a medley of songs from the musical Wicked and the Latin flavoured Oye. Three songs by composer Ian Jefferson will also feature.

 

Schools are encouraged to audition choirs of up to 36 students capable of singing in two parts. Successful schools are selected for one performance only.  A participation fee of $30.00 (plus GST) per student will be payable upon acceptance into the program.

 

Every public school applying will have access to comprehensive teacher professional learning and the 2010 Festival of Choral Music repertoire and teaching CDs. Teachers may opt to attend just the professional learning component of the program.
