Notes To Parents

Parents are asked to note the following:

  • Cumberland High School is in session during this rehearsal period.  Parents are asked NOT to drive onto the school site as parking is extremely limited.
  • Only rostered parents should be on site during school hours.
  • All enquiries should be directed to staff in the hall - not the school office.
  • Areas that are normally in use by the Band during weekend rehearsals are not available during school hours. All Band activities should be contained within the school hall.
  • Students will have an opportunity to view at least the first half of the Schools Spectacular - they will not require a ticket.
  • While in our waiting area at UTS, it is planned that we show at least one of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.  These movies are rated M.  Parents are asked to indicate on their student's Parental Consent Form whether or not they give permission for their student to view these movies.

Accommodation

This rehearsal and performance activity will NOT be residential.  Billets will be organised for students requiring accommodation.  Billets will not be arranged for students lodging their paperwork after Wednesday 18 November 2009.

Band members are welcome to make private accommodation arrangements with other Band members.  No paperwork is required if you make your own arrangements.  Please contact Lindsay Frost by email at Lindsay.Frost@det.nsw.edu.au if you need contact details for a friend in Band.

Meals

All students will be responsible for providing their meals and those of their billets.  The Band Boosters Canteen will NOT be in operation during this rehearsal and performance period.  Limited canteen facilities will be available at Cumberland High School.

Students will need money to purchase their dinner on Friday 27 November.

On Saturday 28 November, there will be a Pizza Party in our holding area at UTS.  This meal time will be spent as a group at UTS.  Unsupervised free time will be granted if time remains after eating.  The cost of the Pizza Party is included in your Schools Spectacular levy (see below).  Orders for pizza will be organised at Cumberland High School during the rehearsal process.  There will be vegetarian pizza on the menu.

Travel

All travel to and from rehearsals is the responsibility of individual players.  Arrangements can be made to assist country students to reach their final destination in Sydney.  Players requiring assistance with travel must contact Lindsay Frost at The Arts Unit by email at Lindsay.Frost@det.nsw.edu.au to make suitable arrangements.  Similar assistance will be available to assist students in getting to their departure point at the conclusion of scheduled rehearsals.

Buses will be organised to transport students from the rehearsal at Cumberland High School to the Entertainment Centre on Thursday 26 November.  All students will be required to travel on the buses provided.

Once rehearsals and performances begin at the Sydney Entertainment Centre, students will be released from our meeting point near UTS and should make transport arrangements accordingly.

All parents and carers should ensure that very clear travel/collection arrangements are in place for their student(s) before they arrive at rehearsals and performances.  Students should have a way of contacting parents in case of difficulties.

Costumes, T-shirts and Schools Spectaular Levy

The Band Boosters have already organised the green capes and flags for our Schools Spectacular performance.  They are also arranging for a Marching Band t-shirt and organising the Pizza Party.  To cover the costs of the capes, flags, t-shirts, pizza and other incidental expenses, each student is asked to pay a $30.00 levy.  Payment of your levy to the Millennium Marching Band Boosters Inc must be made on the first two days of the rehearsal period.

All students will be required to supply their own black shoes, black socks and black trousers, black belt and black Arts Unit shirt.  Costumes/Uniforms will be required for the technical rehearsals on Friday 27 November.

Music

The Music from Wicked Parts 2 and 3 is to be memorised by the commencement of Schools Spectacular rehearsals.  Please contact Lindsay Frost by email at Lindsay.Frost@det.nsw.edu.au if you require practice copies of the music.

Things to Bring

Players are required to bring only essential materials.  Space for storage, changing and the supervision of personal belongings may be limited.  If it is not essential, don't bring it!  No responsibility is taken for the loss of personal items.

Things to bring include:

  • Your instrument (including all necessary accessories such as reeds, slings, mouthpieces etc.)

  • Any necessary medications, clearly labelled with your name and dosage information

  • Comfortable clothing to wear when not performing

  • Something to do (book, cards etc.) when not performing

  • Food and drinks as needed

Please ensure all your belongings are clearly labelled with your name.
