2008 NSW State Wind Bands

The State Schools Secondary wind band was piloted in 2005 in an effort to both complement and augment instrumental music ensembles offered at the school-based level across the state of NSW. In recognition of the variety and variability of quality ensembles, the State Schools Wind Band attempted to offer high level opportunity to selected instrumentalists and to form a hierarchical structure for students to progress from school to regional and onto state ensembles. As a result of the highly successful launch of the program, an accompanying junior ensemble was formed in 2006.

 

The State Schools Wind Bands consist of students drawn from every region in NSW, who have undertaken selection procedures as determined by their region. Equitable representation from each region is sought, and students are required to represent their schools and region as a prerequisite for selection into the state ensemble.

 

Upon successful selection into the State Ensembles, students come together for intensive workshops culminating in high level performance opportunities at the Sydney Opera House.

 

Students selected to participate in the 2008 NSW State Wind Bands will be required to pay a $70.00 (incl GST) participation fee. Billet accommodation will be arranged for country students if required. Transport to and from rehearsals and performances is the responsibility of individual students.
